Some 125 years ago, Ralph and Albert Slazenger expanded their raincoat business in Manchester to include additional goods sold during the summer months as well. Gradually developing rackets and balls for a new sport in its day, "sphairistike", which had been invented earlier by Major Walter Clopton Wingfield.
